Since January 2020 I’ve been looking for a business home. I’ve seen over 12 different units, putting in 4 offers varying from barns, new build offices, garages, a falling down mews and artist studios.
I visited 87 Portland Road, Hove for the first time on the 26th August 2022 and on the 18th November, I signed on the dotted line.
Located 5 minute walk from where I live the shop is on a small high street of independent boutiques, cafes and florists. My shop used to be an estate agent.
It’s a mezzanine layout with space for a work studio downstairs where my packing table and desk are installed alongside a swanky embroidery machine. Upstairs I’m planning a shop with a large glass table found second hand, brass pipe hanging rails and scaffolding style shelving.
I have so many plans, it’s exciting but very overwhelming.
My shop to-do list is:
– Book a day for the sign to go up outside
– Plan the shop window
– Finish sanding a coffee table
(plus so much more!)
I’m getting used to working in the studio, creating, packing orders and admin and am hoping to get the shop open asap. My deadline for finishing creating the vision in my mind is late April/May where I’m planning an opening party to coincide with the Brighton and Hove Artist Open Houses.
