If you’ve followed StephieAnn for a while, you’ll know how much the business has evolved. StephieAnn began with print design, specifically silk products. This year I’m rediscovering print design by exploring new products including my now best selling makeup bags and with printed hot water bottles and tote bags to come – watch this space! With more printed products on the horizon, I thought I’d relook at some StephieAnn classics.

Silk Scarves

In the early days I was surprisingly reluctant to add scarves to the collection but they are such a fab way to showcase the design. Each design includes 15-30 photographs stitched together digitally to create a long rectangle design.

I photograph each flower separately to ensure they’re sharp, clear and bright.
The scarves are printed in Worcestershire onto lightweight silk satin. It arrives on flat rolls where I cut the silk, use interfacing to reinforce the seams and sew two sides together, sandwiching the tassel at the end to create a double sided design.

Silk Tops

My silk tops were an early addition to StephieAnn. They each feature a placement print – a design that’s created around the product shape opposed to a print that repeats. It’s kinda hard to design! So many things to think about – will this flower or that hot air balloon sit on the boob or cut the torso in half?

They’re printed onto a gorgeous silk satin with elastine that makes the fabric strong. Only the front is printed with a soft jersey on the back – this is to allow the print to stand out and allow the top to be versatile. The fabric is printed in Worcestershire and jersey sourced from London. The tops are made by a small manufacturer in South London.

Silk Eye Mask

The first StephieAnn eye mask was made out of the offcuts of nightwear and the tops – usually the waist or neck section that’s discarded during manufacturing. I even started designing this section of the top especially for the masks. Very soon I was selling more masks than tops. I created a repeat print where 5 eye masks can be cut from a width of silk.

Our silk eye masks are still a best selling product, singularly and in gift boxes. Every year I order 1500 masks, printed in Worcestershire and made in London.

StephieAnn Review

“I bought a couple of StephieAnn’s silk scarves as presents for my family. The scarves beautifully made and packaged to look really special. The designs are exquisite and absolutely unique. Her ideas are innovative and I would have no hesitation in recommending her products.”
